Australian Star Rated Impact System is used to help chose the appropriate bollard to protect and secure your assets. Bollards are used to protect buildings against damage, premises from ram raids and vehicles against theft. This Star rating system goes from 1-5 with 5 Star being the strongest.
ASRIS is not a crash tested rating system, but based on force vs yield. Strength of the bollard depends on how it is installed, size and depth of the footing, concrete strength and how much of the pipe is in the ground footing. The pipe diameter is also important-the bigger the pipe, the more strength. It can be of advantage to concrete fill the pipe to absorb impact. Bollard pipe comes in Light, medium and heavy wall thickness. The heavier the wall, the stronger it will be. Light wall pipe is used for low impact areas to no impact at all. Base plated bollards known as Surface mounted bollards, rely on the fastenings used to bolt them down. Dyna bolts are commonly used, however Chemical anchors are far superior strength wise. The bollard can be strengthened further by adding four gussets, again the bigger the diameter pipe the more strength the bollard will have.
